Why do I need an arborist?

An arborist is a specialist trained in the care of individual trees. Certified Arborists have education and experience in tree management. They are trained to identify problems of soil management, plant and insect identification, insect infestations, and how to recognize, handle or treat a variety of problems that can occur to healthy trees in a safe environmentally friendly manner. Our arborists have passed many comprehensive tests and exams by the International Society of Arboriculture. You can be assured of accurate and competent information and advice. Cuts to trees should be well reasoned, timed properly and well executed. Careless cuts, often done by well-intended ill-trained people, can ruin an otherwise sound tree.

Why do I need a tree service after my trees are established?

Trees don’t take care of themselves when their surroundings change. Pollution, traffic, weather, erosion, compacted or depleted soil, road salt, limited root space all take a terrible toll on trees. Your trees will benefit from pruning, mulching, irrigation, and being observed by a trained arborist to avoid problems.

Are there tree ordinances that dictate which trees can be pruned and removed and when?

Yes, many cities and communities have tree ordinances that protect trees from reckless and dangerous pruning or removal and require sound arborist practices before allowing a tree to be removed. We, as a professional tree and landscape company, are well acquainted with the industrial standards and guidelines. We can clear problems with the city managers in your area and get permits when needed.

I am concerned about toxic chemical usage. How do you handle chemicals?

We use eco-friendly products such as organic material and hybrid services that target specific problems rather than blanket cover with traditional material. Chemicals, when applied properly, can get rid of harmful insects without reckless coverage of surrounding plants.

Each chemical has its own purpose in landscaping. We will be glad to discuss any chemicals, herbicides, fertilizers or insecticides we use. We are sensitive to the environment and won’t use any chemicals you don’t want used.

How safe are your chemicals and how will they affect my property?

Many of the chemicals we use at Liberty Tree & Landscape Management are safer than your everyday household cleaners. EPA legally registers our materials for application to trees and shrubs in urban areas. We utilize low-impact, non-toxic and low-toxicity materials to manage the health of your plants and trees.

After pruning, will cuts be treated?

Today’s research shows no benefit from treating wounds with any material. Proper pruning in a timely matter is what is important.

If I have a tree removed will it be done in one day?

Log and stump removal is usually done by a separate crew. Logs are moved within a few days. Both log and stump removals are weather dependent since soft ground limits equipment access. Usually the clean up is complete within a week.

Can I plant a tree where the removed one was?

Often the roots are deep and the grinder can’t reach them. They might crowd new trees roots. Ask the arborist for advice. Each removal is unique.

How soon can we walk on our lawn after you spray?

As soon as it is dry you and your pets are free to enter the area.

What do they mean when they talk about texture in landscaping?

Texture is the relationship of size, surface, appearance, and general distribution of branches and foliage. Some plants are coarse in appearance and they complement big open spaces or rough coarse structures. Others plants are fine in texture and smaller and they enrich smooth surfaces near buildings and in groups. Variety of texture should be a part of the planning and handled carefully so as maintain unity through out the grouping to enhance the home rather than compete with it.

I am about to purchase a home and want to find out about the health of the property trees. How do I go about that?

We all know it is important to have a professional home inspector evaluate the condition of the home before you sign a contract. It is also a good idea to have the evaluation of the trees before you make an investment decision. There can be unexpected high cost maintenance required to secure the safety of surrounding trees. Hazardous conditions can be a costly venture in a home or in the landscape so it is wise to negotiate any costly work to be done before the purchase.

Tree evaluations aren’t about reducing risks alone but about estate investment also. Healthy trees and landscaping can add significant value to the value of your home. Knowing the condition of the property, trees can allow you to plan for the best maintenance and care so you can enjoy the benefits of your trees for years to come.
